I went in the see Dr. McArdle at Fort Wayne Orthopedics yesterday about my carpal tunnel. I am having surgery on the right hand this Friday at 12:15 and having the left one done next Friday at 10:45. He doesn’t like to do both of them at once since it makes you pretty much unable to do anything. He would do both at once if that is what you want but he doesn’t recommend it. It is getting so bad in my right hand that it really bothers me when I try to brush my teeth, do my hair, things like that. It sometimes wakes me up because my fingers just go numb. The left one is not as bad but bad enough that I am going to go ahead and have it done now.
We went into the eye doctor on Monday to see about having lasik. We could both go ahead and have it but we found out that both of us are developing cataracts. It is not really feasible to have lasik. Even if we went ahead and had the lasik now we would both have to have cataract surgery later on. I don’t think I want to go thru it more than once. We have an appointment the end of July with the doctors at the Fort Wayne Cataract and Lasik Center to see if they are bad enough to go ahead and have the surgery. I don’t know if I will have it done this year or not since that will be so close to the start of the new school year. Don’t really want to be taking time off right away. I think Tom will probably have it done if they say it is bad enough that the insurance will cover most of it. Was thinking about Mom and remembering when she had her surgeries. They have come a long way since then. They can even implant a lens that takes care of reading. The doctor said that is actually better than having lasik. With that you still have to wear glasses for reading.
Ashley and I are trying to get things together to have a garage sale. After I found out that I was going to have the surgery, I thought about not having it, but she says she will help set up. I probably won’t be able to do much. Her and Tom will have to do most of it. Will probably have it the Friday and Saturday of Father’s Day weekend. This will probably be my last one. I think when this is done, everything that is left is going to go to Goodwill. Just too much work.
Well, not much more for now. Till later.
You don’t write often but when you do you sure give a lot of news. When I went to the optomitrist he told me that I should be real careful to wear sunglasses since i have the start of cataract also.
I guess i wouldn’t want to have both hands done at once either because it has been many years since anyone other than me has wiped my … well, you get the idea.
I was not given the option of the implant for reading, so I do have to wear reading glasses. Since I was on Medicare when I had the surgeries, I know they would not have paid for that type of implant. I do know a gal who had cataract type surgery, (although she didn’t have cataracts) and she had that type of implant. She couldn’t have lasik and I guess didn’t want to wear glasses anymore, but since she didn’t actually have cataracts, she paid for all of it. Very expensive. The surgery itself was not bad at all and most of the recovery just involves putting several kinds of drops in your eyes for a few weeks. I am more careful now to wear sunglasses.
Paul’s last comment cracked me up.
