We’re home July 6, 2009

On Thursday we left Ormond Beach and headed up to NC to Amanda and Greg’s.  Amanda was already home from work.  Greg got home about an hour after we got there.  The weather was really warm.  Actually warmer than it was in Florida.  Saturday they had a cookout. The pool was 90 degrees.  Felt like bathwater.  We went to the concert and the fireworks on the base.  Heard two country singers – Juliann Hough and Jason Michael Carroll.  They were both very good.    The fireworks were really good too.  Cameron did watch them at times.  He is really starting to notice things more.  The noise didn’t seem to bother him at all.  We left there yesterday around noon and got home around 11:40 last night.  We were really tired.   We went over to Jenns this afternoon for a short time to see them.  They girls were thrilled to see us.  Alvin jumped all over me.  I decided not to bring him home since we will be leaving again in a couple of days.  We will be home until Wednesday when we head to Colorado.  Check in at Pagosa Springs is on Friday.  Need to get a load of laundry done yet today.   Till later.

Very Warm June 30, 2009

I did get some good pictures of Cameron but the internet here is really slow.  We will be heading back to Amanda and Greg’s when we leave here to spend the 4th with them.  I will try to post some when we get there.  Internet is much faster.  I did get a couple of good ones of him in his bath with a big smile.  Amanda was making him laugh and he wasn’t paying attention to the camera.  He really loves his bath.   I’m not sure what day we will be leaving there.  Either Sunday or Monday.  I need to be  back by Tuesday for the summer reading night at school.  We will be home for a couple of days and then will leave for Colorado.   We will stay at a timeshare in Pagosa Springs for a week and then go up north to see family and friends.

It is pretty warm here.  It is 9:30 a.m. and it is 82 with 84% humidity.  Heat index is 91.  Tom and I don’t really mind the heat though.  Sure is better than being too cold.  Supposed to rain quite a bit today.  We thought we would take the day to do laundry.  We are only a few miles from the Daytona Speedway and wanted to go over there to take the tour.  We went by there the other day but didn’t have the camera so didn’t want to take the tour then.  We will be back down here in August so if we don’t get to take it this time we will try to do it then.  I think it is supposed to be nicer tomorrow although they have a 30-40% chance of rain almost every day.    I guess that is all for now.

We spent Tuesday evening at Marietta, OH and arrived at Amanda and Greg’s around 2:00 on Wednesday.  Greg was home as he had to do a jump during the night on Tuesday/Wed. morning.  He was sleeping when we got there.  Woke up a little after that.  Amanda and Cameron didn’t get there until around 5 or so.  I couldn’t believe how much he has grown.  She left him home on  Thursday and we took care of him.  It was a little hard because it bothered me to pat his back after giving him a bottle or to hold him for very long.  The hands and wrists just aren’t healed enough yet.  Hopefully they will be better when we go back the end of next week.  He has gotten so much more personality.  Smiles a lot but very seldom for the camera.  He just stares at it.  I guess he is trying to figure out what it is.

We left Amanda and Greg’s yesterday morning around 8:30.   Got to Ormond Beach around 5:00.  Checked in and then went and got something to eat.   We have a kitchen but hadn’t done any grocery shopping yet.   Then walked a little on the beach.  You can actually drive on the beach here but don’t think I want to in my car.  Saw someone today stuck in the sand.  Mostly you see trucks or SUVs.  Went to the grocery a little bit ago and when we came out it was raining.  Didn’t rain very long.  Is clear now so will probably head on out to the beach.  Looks like we will be having some rain every day.  Hopefully it will not be too much.  Till later.

Leaving tomorrow June 23, 2009

We are heading out tomorrow evening for NC.  I have summer reading program at school from 5:00 to 7:00 tomorrow,  will drop Alvin off with Jenn after that and then take off.  Don’t know how far we will go tomorrow night.  Will stay at Amanda’s  until Friday morning and then will be headed to Ormond Beach, FL.  That is over on the coast around Daytona.  Will be there until the 2nd of July and will then head back to NC to spend the 4th with Amanda, Greg and Cameron.  I can’t wait to see that little one again.  Greg sent me a text with a picture of him and it looks like he has grown so much.  Amanda is going to keep him home from daycare on Thursday and let us take care of him.  That way we get to see him a little more.  Amanda really wanted us to come back up that way for the 4th since her and Greg will both have a 4 day weekend and will be able to spend a little more time with us.   Taking the laptop along so we will try to update this after we get there.  Maybe I can figure out how to post a couple of pictures.  Till later.

I’m home from the second hand surgery.  Everything went well.  Numbness is wearing off.  Not too much pain.  The other hand is doing real well  Still a little bit of tenderness but getting better every day.

Got home a little while ago.  Surgery went well.  I actually got in a little early.  The little old man before ate oatmeal this morning.  He told them they were operating on his had not his tummy.  they moved him to the last time this afternoon.  We went to get something to eat afterward.  I was really hungry since I couldn’t have anything to eat after midnight.  There is some pain but not as much as I expected.  Probably hurt worse tonight and tomorrow.  I do have darvocet.  Took one a little bit ago but don’t really want to take them if I don’t have to.  Ashley, McKenzie and Jenn have their dance recital tonight so want to be able to go to that.  If it doesn’t hurt any worse thann it does not, I should be good to go.  I was really nervous this morning but don’t think I will be as bad next week since I now know what it is like.

Surgery Friday June 3, 2009

I went in the see Dr. McArdle at Fort Wayne Orthopedics yesterday about my carpal tunnel.  I am having surgery on the right hand this Friday at 12:15 and having the left one done next Friday at 10:45.  He doesn’t like to do both of them at once since it makes you pretty much unable to do anything.  He would do both at once if that is what you want but he doesn’t recommend it.  It is getting so bad in my right hand that it really bothers me when I try to brush my teeth, do my hair, things like that.  It sometimes wakes me up because my fingers just go numb.  The left one is not as bad but bad enough that I am going to go ahead and have it done now.

We went into the eye doctor on Monday to see about having lasik.  We could both go ahead and have it but we found out that  both of us are developing cataracts.  It is not really feasible to have lasik.  Even if we went ahead and had the lasik now we would both have to have cataract surgery later on.  I don’t think I want to go thru it more than once.   We have an appointment the end of July with the doctors at the Fort Wayne Cataract and Lasik Center to see if they are bad enough to go ahead and have the surgery.  I don’t know if I will have it done this year or not since that will be so close to the start of the new school year.  Don’t really want to be taking time off right away.   I think Tom will probably have it done if they say it is bad enough that the insurance will cover most of it.  Was thinking about Mom and remembering when she had her surgeries.  They have come a long way since then.  They can even implant a lens that takes care of reading.  The doctor said that is actually better than having lasik.  With that you still have to wear glasses for reading.

Ashley and I are trying to get things together to have a garage sale.  After I found out that I was going to have the surgery, I thought about not having it, but she says she will help set up.  I probably won’t be able to do much.  Her and Tom will have to do most of it.  Will probably have it the Friday and Saturday of Father’s Day weekend.  This will probably be my last one.  I think when this is done, everything that is left is going to go to Goodwill.  Just too much work.

Well, not much more for now.  Till later.

Busy, busy, busy May 23, 2009

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I posted something.  It has been so busy with the end of school.  I don’t think I can recall everything I’ve been doing but will touch on a few.  Jenn and Charlie tore the plaster off the walls in the hallway upstairs.  What a mess.  Tom and I went over there last weekend to clean out the basement(cellar).  We still had a bunch of junk down there.  They had gotten a big dumpster in for the plaster so thought it would be a good time to get the junk out.  We were really tired after doing that.  Tom did something to his wrist and went to the doctor on Monday.  He took x-rays but nothing broken.   Guess he just strained it too much.  Hasn’t been able to do much with it but luckily it is his left one.  I have been fixing meals in the evenings and taking over there as I know they would probably not stop to fix anything.

Friday is the last day of school for the elementary schools.  I have been trying to get my inventory done in the library but it is going slow.  It takes a long time to scan everything.  I stayed over a little on Thursday and Friday just to get a little more done.  It isn’t hard work but just takes a long time and seems to tire me out.  Guess maybe I’m just getting old.  I am trying to get done by Friday so I don’t have to go back on June 1st.  That is the staff work day and I don’t have to go if I get my work done.  Ashley has to go to school on the 1st as they had a day off a couple of weeks ago when we had a swine flu scare.  One child went to the doctor and they said it was a possibility that it was the swine flu so they closed the middle school and high school to do a thorough cleaning.  They had to close both as they share the cafeteria, auditorium, band room, etc.  It turned out negative but I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry.  Unfortunately, they have to make that day up.

Our church planted a garden this year to donate vegetables to the food pantries.  They moved a shed that was out in back of church to where the garden is and the kids painted it this morning.  There were only a few there but we had a good time and it looks really good.   They painted flowers, trees, butterflies, etc. and themselves.  I think some of them had about as much paint on themselves as they did on the shed.

Don’t really know what we are going to do the rest of this weekend.  It is supposed to be nice tomorrow so may go for a motorcycle ride.  We might just sit and do nothing.  Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day.

It’s been a while April 26, 2009

img_12531It’s been a while since I have put anything on this.  Arrived back in Indiana on the 17th at 12:15 a.m.  Greg came in the car with the dogs and Amanda and Cameron rode with me.  It was a long trip with a new baby and 3 dogs.  Tom had come home on Easter Sunday.  I didn’t go to work on that Friday as I was really tired and I had told Mike I probably wouldn’t come in till Monday.  Sunday the 19th was Amanda’s birthday so we had everyone over for a meal and cake and ice cream.  She had told me not to worry about her birthday but I said it was the first time I had gotten to spend her birthday with her since she went in the service and I wasn’t letting it go by without doing something.

They have been staying over at Jenn and Charlie’s since they have more room but we have gotten to spend quite a bit of time with them.  I am really going to miss them when they go home.  They will be leaving tomorrow or Tuesday.  Cameron has a well baby check on Wednesday.  He will also be going to the University of North Carolina on Thursday for a sweat test.  They called Amanda last week and Cameron tested positive for one mutation for Cystic Fibrosis.  That doesn’t mean he has it but could be a carrier.  They say that both parents have to carry the gene for a child to have it.  Don’t think anyone in our family has ever been told they are a carrier.   Please say some prayers for him, Amanda and Greg.   Will let you all know when we find out the results.  Amanda said they should have the results late in the day.

Tom has decided to go ahead and retire from IBM.  His last day is tomorrow but there is a bridge that carries him over to the 30th as far as the paycheck goes.  They are having a retirement luncheon on Tuesday.  I am going to try to take off a couple of hours so I can go in for it.   He has talked to a couple of people about part-time jobs but I think he is going to take the summer off so that we can spend it together.  We would like to take a couple of trips and it would make it easier if he wasn’t working.    I am going to continue to work for now.  We get a year’s worth of insurance at the rate we were paying but after that year, I will probably have to take it out thru the school.   We really haven’t decided if we want to stay in Wabash or go south.  It is all rather scary but I know that God will take care of us and lead us where he wants us to go.

Well, I think that is all the news for now.  Till later.  Linda
